Hello, Rey Ybarra here with a special announcement. We are facing a financial/economic crises in our country of unprecedented proportions. Since the beginning of the year, over 1 million jobs have been lost and Wall Street has taken a plunge. Many of you have watched your savings, 401 k investments lose much of its value. Sadly, some of you have lost your jobs or have had your hours reduced by your company. A lot of people who saved for retirement are now unable to retire because of the lost value of their 401 k plan. Wall Street corruption and greed along with the mortgage meltdown has taken us into a recession. Many people I have spoken to are afraid of the immediate future.

What do we do? Where do we go for answers? I have spoken to many people about this situation we are in and have decided to ask the experts for answers to these economic challenges we face. So, we are beginning our "Interviews With Financial Experts" series on Best Selling Author Television.

This special television series will focus on the economic situation at hand. Hopefully, it will help you navigate through the complex economic issues facing us.

I have invited some great people on the show to share their knowledge and expertise with you. We will begin our series with Real Estate/Money expert Jason Hartman. Jason is also a very successful talk radio host. His show is broadcast on KABC talk radio and he has agreed to come on the program! You can read his bio below. He will be coming in for a full length interview on Thursday, November 20Th at noon at the Brand Bookshop in Glendale.

Hello Everyone! I have been somewhat silent for a while now. Most of you have known we were set to produce our new series from the Borders Books in Century City. Our first guest was to be actor, author and star of Broadway and Television Icon Adrienne Barbeau. Unfortunately our program was stopped at the last minute by someone in corporate at Borders headquarters.

Why? We do not know and we were not given a reason. After all of the calls, scheduling and putting my reputation on the line contacting the major publishers, agents and publicists we were shut down before we could get started. Needless to say, I was very frustrated and angry after being reassured that my program would be given the green light. We even had a full page write up in the Century City News printed about us! And I also spread the word amongst all of you about our new series.

I worked very hard behind the scenes to make things work. However, it fell on deaf ears. It reminds me why I left the corporate world years ago. And it also reaffirms why I am working so hard on a new program using the latest technology. The show must go on and I do apologize for the delay and set backs we have had. I want to reassure everyone that we are working hard on alternative programming and some new things. Once they are solidified, I will let you know.

We are building huge communities online and building up our audience through the social media networks, becoming totally independent of the corporate juggernaut. In the meantime, I promise all of you I will produce the highest quality programming featuring some great authors in the not too distant future.

What makes Los Angeles such a great place to create unique programming for our show, are the many different people from all walks of life who write on the many fascinating subjects. They all came together at this event.

The subject matter on this series of interviews and programming range from an illustrator, the serious matter of Islamic Fundamentalism and how it is threatening the free world. The Holocaust and how not to forget about it through poems. Improving the broken school system here is Los Angeles.

There is a great interview about two brothers mixed up in the civil war and if you want to know how to speak with passion, we have an expert who can show you how.

I even interviewed a great author who tells a wondrous story of a Hawaiian princess. I was very intrigued by this story and the great art work for her book.

Authors Coalition teams up with Best Selling Author Television at the UCLA/LA Times Festival of Books 2008!

What an event! Hello, this is Rey Ybarra, host and producer of Best Selling Author Television. We have just wrapped our on location production at the wonderful Authors Coalition Exhibit booth produced by the founder of the Authors Coalition, Carolyn Howard-Johnson. (in the middle in the yellow shirt).

This was our first year hosting and producing programming from this years event. Randy and I (I am in the blue shirt, Randy D, our director is in the red shirt) interviewed some great authors and members of this outstanding group.

This photo says it all! Carolyn Howard-Johnson is an award winning author and is the founder of this group of writers here in Southern California. She runs a first rate organization and is a consummate professional. I was in total awe of how she organized everything and I am honored to have been part of this great project.

The energy and networking along with the authors who participated during both days we filmed was truly incredible. Even though it was very hot both days, I had a blast meeting new authors and interviewing each of them!

That's me with author of Gender and Religion Barbara Crandall. She is a doctor at UCLA and has overcome a lot of gender discrimination working in a male dominated field. I enjoyed my time with her and she has a great story to tell!

One interesting gentleman I interviewed on the spot is David Jones, author of Two Brothers. He is a military historian par excellence and I not only enjoyed his energy and personality but the book cover is one of the best I have ever seen! Way to go David.

Anna Maria Prezio is another author who has wonderful energy! She is a Feng-Shui expert and is really in tune with people and their energy. In her line of work she has to be. It was a pleasure meeting you Anna.

Christine Alexanians, author of "It's Spring. It Snows" was truly a very deep interview about the Armenian holocaust. Indeed, one of her grandparents was in a concentration camp and Christine is doing her best to let people know about this tragedy through her book of poems.

"Wai-nani, High Chiefess of Hawai'i, Her Epic Journey" author Linda Ballou stopped by to discuss with me her novel. I was impressed with Linda's passion and expertise in this subject matter. I was also taken by the beautiful book cover which gave me a feeling of wonder! Great job Linda!

Celebrated illustrator Lon Levin came by to talk to us about his new book coming out. Without giving the whole story, his book is a new spin on the theme every child is afraid of, the monster under the bed, but with a twist. Lon was a lot of fun to speak to. He has that California laid back energy.

Good friend Pattie Kokinos , author of the best seller Angel Park, spoke to us about her new projects and website. A tireless advocate of education, Pattie gave up a wonderful teaching position to pursue the challenges of public education and now devotes an incredible amount of her time and resources toward changing the broken education system!

Author George Hassanzabeh, who wrote the book Iran: Harsh Arm of Islam spoke to me about this important topic of Islamic Fundamentalism. He is a passionate writer educating us in the west about the dangers posed to all of us in the free world!

Finishing up with the interviewing is Carolyn Howard-Johnson and myself. I am amazed at her passion, energy and commitment! She is truly one of a kind. I was in awe of how she networks and is so totally immersed when speaking with those that stopped by the Authors Coalition exhibit booth.

Oops, I almost forgot this one! author "Speak With Passion, Speak With Power"Pamela Kelley and I had a wonderful interview together. You can tell who is going to go far in their chosen field. And Pamela is one the most dynamic interviews I have done! Great job Pamela.

Technology continues to change PR practices

Bennett & Company's annual survey reveals journalists are turning
to social networking

ORLANDO, Fla. (October 15, 2007) - According to Bennett & Company's 25th anniversary survey, 70 percent of journalists say "social network" is the hottest buzzword of the day and 79 percent turn to this medium for help on the job. This year's national survey polled more than 29,000 journalists, with 688 completing 12 questions to provide insight and advice on what's working and what's not.

The survey found that one-in-three journalists are contributing to blogs and many more are finding social networks and blogs to be a valuable resource. "What was once seen as a trend is fast becoming a legitimate way of receiving information and story ideas," says Laura Bennett, president of Bennett & Company, commenting on the findings.

While the evolution of technology continues to effect PR practices (91 percent of journalists prefer to be contacted by email and 70 percent rely heavily on visual attachments) the annual survey also found that age-old truisms - such as the importance of customizing your pitch, eliminating the "fluff" and building relationships - remain the surest way to see your news in print.

Journalists want information from PR firms to be fast, reliable, and direct, confirms Jeff Zbar, marketing columnist from the South Florida Business Journal, "Do not waste your time on polished releases; I would rather receive news/ideas sooner (as simple text in an email) than have you polish the release."

One journalist took it a step further: "Write crisp leads that describe what you're writing about. If I want flowery, I'll go to a florist."

What does this mean for today's PR professionals? "Everything," says Bennett. "Without being dramatic, I think changes in technology have made the public relations function much more important to corporate America; these advances have turned our profession upside down - in a good way. This new three-way conversation takes our messaging from an audience of tens of thousands to an audience of one. It means our skills have more value and we have to be sharper than ever."

Journalists agree. "The line between traditional, old media, and non-traditional means of information delivery, (such as) blogs, is softening and blurring," one respondent offered.

The bottom line for PR professionals: know your contacts, be relevant and efficient and, if you're not already involved in social networking you'd better get on the bullet-train.

Lot's of chatter about the performance of quarterlife on television this week. The online video series turned television show was deemed unsuccessful on the boob tube, attracting nearly four million viewers. First of all, how crazy is it that "nearly four million" viewers is considered a dismal failure. Online it would have been considered a rocket ship headed for stardom. Most of the talk has been about what this means for online shows that want to make the jump to television. But I think that's the wrong angle. Some content is better for the Internet and some content is better for television. There's no reason to constantly want to force one into the other. Difference demographics are attracted to each, and each can have it's own successes and failures. The sooner everyone stops trying to compare one to the other, and just works on making their content a success on the platform where it fits best, the better off we'll all be. If content makes the leap and does well - wonderful! If it doesn't, or never makes the leap at all but has success online - wonderful! Bottom line: the Internet doesn't HAVE to be the minor league for television.

Stats: Facebook Traffic Up 117%, Veoh Soars 346%

Nielsen//NetRatings has released its August traffic report for social networking, blogs, and video sites. In the report, Facebook shows 117% growth since August of last year to 19 million unique visitors, while MySpace still grew at a healthy 23% pace to 60 million uniques. On the video side of things, Veoh was the biggest gainer, up 346% from August of last year to nearly 3 million monthly uniques. MySpace video actually lost traffic, shrinking 6% to 16.7 million uniques, while YouTube was up 66%.

Online TV a Hit With Viewers FEBRUARY 7, 2008

Forget about prime time, Americans are watching their favorite TV shows online when and how they want, according to the "Digital Life America" survey of 1,150 Americans ages 12+ conducted by Solutions Research Group.

More than 80 million American Internet users have watched a television show online, representing 43% of the total online population. This is a sharp increase from just one year ago, when only 25% were watching online
In addition, 20% of Internet users polled are watching shows online on a weekly basis.
Time shifting strongly correlated with age. Overall, 25% of respondents had time-shifted a prime time show using either a DVR, broadband, mobile or some other device. Among 18-to-34-year-olds, that percentage rose to 34%.
As these trends continue and more content becomes available online, television scheduling may be a thing of the past.

We had an exciting time interviewing some great authors from the Southern California Book Publicists annual holiday mixer. With the power of Internet On Demand TV, we captured for all of you to see anytime you wish, interviews with outstanding authors. On the left, is best selling author Gustavo Arellano, who wrote the best seller, Ask A Mexican. When I first arrived at the Sportsman's Lodge, he was the first author I ran into. I heard of Gustavo listening to one of my favorite radio shows here in Southern California, the Al Rantel radio show on 790 KABC. Gustavo answers the tough questions about all of the issues concerning immigration and other topics that are of great concern to Californians and the Mexican community.

This was a fun time spending it with old friends and new ones! I am amazed at the number of fantastic authors who have written some of the best books, including above Roger SeLegue who wrote No Sun Without Shadow. One of the purposes of our program is to introduce these authors to a new audience and to give them exposure for their work.

Some authors, like Patricia Kokinos with me on the left have another purpose for their work. Patricia wants to improve the school system and has found a clever way to do so. She has put her message in a novel, Angel Park. Patricia is no stranger to education and she has been battling on the front lines for improving education in the public school system.
